Neighborhood Summer Club
It’s August, and our kids have said that summer break is going by way too fast! In June we took a step of faith and went door-to-door in our neighborhood, inviting all elementary students to come to our Neighborhood Ct lub. The theme was “Getting Sticky,” complete with sticky illustrations and games that showed how God holds things together, sin gets stuck on us, and how Jesus took that sin and put it on himself. It was an exhausting but rewarding week. Our kids, and others, were invested in, neighbors were touched that we would open our home, and relationships were deepened!
Then it was roadtrip time–every other year, the US staff of Cru gather at Colorado State University for encouragement and training. We made our traditional stops at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and of course had to stay in Burlington, CO, where our van broke down 2 years ago for a week! Our kids had been looking forward to Colorado for months. They loved the adventure of staying in the dorms, eating at the cafeteria, and going to kid camp while we took in the meetings.
We were encouraged to hear how God is working across the US and the world, bringing people to himself. We heard about new opportunities and challenges. For example, Athletes in Action has been in contact with international soccer star Kaká, who wants to use his platform to share Christ. (He has 16 million Twitter followers! @KAKA)
Too often we settle for that which is theologically vague and harmlessly accomodating, and it’s doing so much damage to the gospel.

The JESUS Film smartphone app (named Jesus Film Media), which puts the JESUS Film in every language on anyone’s phone, has had 12.8 million views since its launch in October 2012.
One of our favorite speakers was Jonalyn Fincher, who talked about conversation stoppers and starters as we engage with people about Jesus. She has co-written a book, “Coffee Shop Conversations,” available on Amazon.
We start up school in a few weeks, and are celebrating Elijah’s 7th birthday next week! Thanks for partnering with us in reaching the lost for Jesus.
