October update

We found out a few weeks ago that my mission trip to Central Asia this month was a no-go, since there weren’t enough people to fill out the team at this time. The plan is to go on a trip sometime in early 2016 instead. The JESUS Film Mission Trips team is always looking for believers to go with them. Trips are usually two weeks long, and visit places around the world. There is an application process—check it out if you’re even a little interested!
Heather has been formatting Film School documents in Arabic! Not only is it of course unreadable for her, but Arabic text and page order run right-to-left. It’s been hard, but hearing about how God has already increased the ministry of these Middle Eastern film school participants (like the following story from one of them) has made it well worth it!

“After showing the second film a young guy from a Muslim background asked if it is possible to quit some sins in his life and if God can forgive these sins. That led us to read the scripture where Christ forgives the sin of the woman who is caught in adultery. After we told him this story he perceived the meaning of forgiveness in a new way, but he asked again if God really forgives sins. Then he asked that we pray for him. After we prayed we asked him to say the prayer words after us to accept Christ as his personal savior and the young man happily prayed. He had his friend with him who stood up to pray and said, “I want this forgiveness too.” The young guy’s name is Khaled and his friend’s name is Ather.”

“X works with my sister and she is a funny and open person. I met her several times and each time I wanted to share the gospel with her but because she is from a Muslim background I didn’t know how to start and I was always hesitant to do so. After Level 1 of the film school I decided to share with her some of the films. We watched together the short film La Liberte and she liked the film so much. She said it’s true that everyone needs someone else to guide him to the way of freedom. Her comment was great and open the door for me to say that God in the first place created us free people. This led our conversation to talk about materialism, bondages, sin and repentance. The film helped me initiate a spiritual conversation with X and now we can watch more films for even deeper conversations.”

After Level 1, participants showed short films to 495 people in person and 31 of them became followers of Jesus.

Participants have produced 11 short film projects so far. They are using the films with students, leaders, churches and online. Short films have already become a main tool in the ministry of at least 12 of the 15 school participants.

Facebook: 713,245 viewings of our short films and videos on Facebook so far. 3391 of the viewers shared these films on their FB accounts.

4 participants responded to 531 emails using short films in 3 months.
