A woman full of years and grace who loved God and others deeply recently received the gift of spending Christmas face-to-face with Jesus. Her name was Vonette Bright, and with her husband, Bill, she obeyed God and followed the vision of starting a movement to spread the gospel of Christ to the world. The Brights founded Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) in 1951.
As we reflect on Vonette’s life we are challenged to be as full of faith as she was in following the vision that God first gave to Bill, and then later to Vonette. Also, to have patience and trust in God’s timing, as the Brights did as the movement grew over decades to reach the millions for Jesus it has over the years. We were blessed to attend Vonette Bright’s beautiful memorial service last week where we heard from her family and friends of the influential life she led, and how much prayer and joy filled her life.
Our lives were affected by the steps of obedience the Brights took many years ago. We both entered college with a personal relationship with Jesus and a desire to connect with other believers. God graciously led each of us to Cru movements on our college campuses, and as we were being discipled, we learned to share our faith and saw classmates say “yes” to Jesus. Our involvement as students grew our hearts and we wanted to be a part of seeing people from every nation, tribe and tongue hear and receive the good news of the gospel. We are grateful to see God work in and through us as we continue to serve with Cru.
We hope this new year finds you drawing closer to Jesus and has many opportunities to share his love and grace with those in your sphere of influence! God bless you.
