Our team recently completed “Theophilus,” a kind of music video/classic Jesus Film mash-up. Instead of music, though, it features spoken word, which, according to Wikipedia, is “an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of word play and intonation and voice inflection. It is a ‘catchall’ that includes any kind of poetry recited aloud…” One of the top spoken word artists in the nation, Shawn Welcome, wrote the piece and we recorded him performing it. We hope it connects with those in diverse urban audiences. It was unveiled it at Cru Inner City’s “Creating Options Together” conference. “Theophilus” is on the Jesus Film Project app and can be viewed online. Many who saw the piece at the conference were asking how to access the film so that they could use it! You can pray it would open hearts and lead to spiritual discussions.
