Maybe you’ve experienced it, or at very least seen it portrayed in a movie — a moment in time where you are waiting backstage in relative anonymity before stepping out into the spotlight. No one is watching; you can catch your breath, rest, go through your lines or a tricky dance combo one more time. Then you hear your cue and step forward and all eyes are on you, the audience taking in every word and movement. Sounds a bit unnerving. Some people may crave the spotlight, yet I think everyone wants and needs those moments of rest, of pausing.
As I walked around Lake Eola I came across this scene. It’s this little side path, sheltered and inviting. Yet, take it a few steps more, the sidewalk curves and you’re at a busy street with skyscrapers looming overhead. It was like a little backstage area where you could catch your breath before entering the fray. A few moments of calm, of shelter before going about your day.
